When You Should Tune Your Violin – Quick Tip

Find more Quick Tips and lessons by Vi Wickam and other teachers at https://www.myTalentForge.com.

Hey everybody! Vi Wickam with myTalentForge.com, and this is a random Quick Tip for you.

It’s answering a question that I’m frequently asked by beginning fiddlers and violinists who are new to the instrument.

The question is, “how frequently do I need to tune my violin or my fiddle?”

So, the answer really is to this is, how frequently do you want your violin to be in tune when you play it? Because if you don’t check to see if it’s in tune when you pick it up, you’re not going to, probably, be right in tune.

I check my violin every time I pick it up to play it to see if it’s in tune. And it’s usually just minor adjustments required.

So I’ve given you another whole lesson on how to tune your violin, which we’ll link to right there… but now the question is how often should I tune my violin? And the answer is: every time you pick up your violin, check to see if it’s in tune.

I use a chromatic tuner that allows for sweetened tunings on my phone, but there are also all sorts of other options. So, when you pick up your violin, if you want your violin to be in tune- tune it!

And that’s your Quick Tip for today! Have a wonderful week and I’ll talk to you again soon!

      Hi Jerry,

Which fiddle championships are you referring to? I do know some people who do stepdancing. What are you looking for?

      Thanks,
      Vi
