My inspiration for playing Westmoreland’s Hornpipe came from seeing/hearing Tony Ludiker play it on one of the youtube videos from Hallettsville this year. He played the heck out of it.
I really like the groupings of 3 in the A part that give it a cool syncopated feeling, and the prevalent appearance of the minor chord in the A Part. In the B Part I like where it goes to the 2 chord (E7) before it goes to the 5. You don’t see that in breakdowns all that often. Anyway, for a number of reasons (including some the are music-geeky) it’s a fun song to play.
If I recall correctly from the discussion about this tune, it was written by Terry Morris in honor of A.R. Westmoreland. If I got this wrong, please correct me in the comments.
