Uncle Dan is an old Missouri tune that I learned from Junior Marriott. Junior’s the only person I have ever heard play this tune before, but I’m certain that it has some history to be uncovered. Anyway, it’s a fun tune, and it’s got a really nice danceable feel to it.
It’s a C tune with a strong A minor component, similar to Billy in the Lowground and Spider Bit the Baby, but the C (third) part of this song is really what sets it apart. It has a chord where you play 4th finger D on the G string along with a first finger E on the D string and a 2nd Finger C natural on the A string. It’s harder than it sounds. 😉
I haven’t been able to find any history on this tune, so if you have any info, please leave it as a comment on this post.
Update from Facebook:
Jake Duncan Randy Elmore’s uncle wrote it
Marty Elmore Yes, jake is correct. Our uncle Dan Dixon wrote it and named it. Randy embellished it and made it the tune that it is.
