The Power of Drones!

Hi, I’m Vi Wickam, and this is a myTalentForge.com Quick Tip of the Week!

When you are working on intonation, use your open strings to your advantage.

Play an open string drone along with the notes you’re trying to play.

If I’m trying to hear the notes on my A-string […], I can play the D-string along with it […]. Obviously, a major 7th is going to sound weird […], but it’s at an interval you can recognize.

So, use that to your advantage- whether it’s the string below or it’s the string above, use the open strings as a reference point to help you with your intonation.

If I’m doing […], you can hear how each of those intervals […] sounds in reference to the open string above or below.

This is something we explore in greater detail during some of our scale lessons on myTalentForge.com.

We have a whole bunch of them ranging from just a regular one octave major scale up to a 3-octave scale system, that covers all of the keys- major and minor, and even have modal scale lessons by Dr. David Wallace.

So if you’re looking for scale lessons, including ones that have the open string drones, go check it out on myTalentForge.com.

I promise you, you will not be disappointed. See you next week!
