I’m really excited to be teaching the fiddling portion of the Violin Celebration: Suzuki and the Fiddler this June. I’m so excited for this event that I’m actually going to leave Weiser early to teach at it. I know – it’s hard to believe.
Here is the official information direct from the flyer:
A Violinist’s Celebration:
SUZUKI AND THE FIDDLER
Location: MAGNOLIA MUSIC STUDIO
210 West Magnolia Street #10
Fort Collins, CO 80521
Date: FRIDAY, JUNE 21
Fee: $40
It’s a social day of music! Spend the day with highly acclaimed Suzuki pedagogue, Everett Goodwin, and local fiddlers Emily Bowman and Vi Wickam as they take you on a journey of music making.
Start off in the morning with Suzuki style fun and games — revel with new friends while learning new approaches to the violin!
Follow up in the afternoon with a couple of fiddle tunes to keep your foot tapping all summer long.
We’ll cap off the day with a musical review on The Old Town Square Plaza Stage, sponsored by The Downtown Business Association.
Learning by ear and tuning up your intonation never sounded so good or made you smile so widely – guaranteed fun and
musical growth.
Come study with the masters. You don’t want to miss this collaborative winner of a day!
For Pre-twinklers through Suzuki Book 6.
The Fiddler’s Afternoon
Our riotous morning’s adventure is followed by an afternoon of free-flying fun with Vi Wickam, assisted by Emily Bowman.
Topics covered will include:
- Learning 2 New Tunes (The tunes will be posted soon as videos for advanced study.)
- Warming Up your body and your mind.
- Playing accompaniment on Fiddle.
- Beginning Improvisation.
- Playing by ear.
- Playing Harmony (Twin Fiddling).
Here are the first two video lessons of Turkey in the Straw. The first video contains the melody – learn this first. The second video is a bonus and contains the harmony. If you have a friend to practice with, take turns playing the melody and harmony. Watch the video lessons as many times as you need, and have fun as you work on these tunes by ear to get prepared for the workshop.
