Description
This violin is very well made, and appears to me to be as it is labeled.
The label reads:
Ladislav F. Prokop – hotovitel hudebnich nastroju – V CHRUDIMI 1911
This violin has a very nice rich tone, and is in excellent condition.
Information on Ladislav F. Prokop
Ladislav F. Prokop was born in 1843 and was the son and pupil of F.D.Prokop. He succeeded his father and worked in their family workshop until 1875. Prokop then reestablished his workshop in Chrudim, Bohemia, in 1876 and crafted some of the finest Bohemian instruments made until 1925.
The Prokop workshop produced violins on several plans among which were Amati, Stradivari and Stainer models. Prokop was well respected and known for his own plan which was very much like Stainer. He is also noted for several improvements of the neck and peg box. Prokop was honored several times at European exhibitions.
