Practice Shorter and More Frequently

Hi, I’m Vi Wickam and this is your Quick Tip this week!

Take your practice sessions and break them up into shorter sessions.

Now, that sounds simple!

People ask me all the time, “How long do I need to practice?” And I always say don’t practice any longer than you can practice in a focused manner.

You’re much better off when you’re starting out taking two 5 or 10 minute practice sessions, than you are trying to practice a half hour or an hour straight through.

Now, even if you’re an advanced player, very often you’re better off taking two 45 minute or hour long sessions to practice, than trying to do 2 hours straight through.

Because you want to be in a focused, clear, concentrated mindset when you’re practicing. You want to be really in a listening state.

Your ears get tired, your brain focus is warn out… So don’t go beyond it.

Take your sessions, and you know, if you want to practice an hour a day- do two half hour sessions or even three 20 minute sessions, rather than trying to practice an hour straight concentrating.

So that’s your Quick Tip this week. Break down your sessions, only practice as long as you can focus at one sitting. Instead of doing an hour straight, or two hours straight, break it up into two or three shorter sessions.

That’s your Quick Tip of the Week!
