Tonight, after I finished teaching my lessons, Palm Trees of Kerry was the tune that that was in my head. The reason it was in my head is that I learned it an hour and a half earlier when one of my students played it for me.
Palm Trees of Kerry is a relatively simple tune, but it’s pretty in its simplicity. I think it might be faux Irish, because the name sounds kind of Irish, and the tune sounds kind of Irish, but I don’t believe that there are any palm trees in Ireland – unless they are hiding indoors. 🙂
It’s a quick waltz, and to me, it also sounds a little bit like it should be played at a fair or circus, maybe while you are riding a ferris wheel.
So far the only online reference to The Palm Trees of Kerry is that Peter Cooper included it in the Mel Bay book:
