Tonight, after I finished teaching my lessons, Palm Trees of Kerry was the tune that that was in my head. The reason it was in my head is that I learned it an hour and a half earlier when one of my students played it for me.
Palm Trees of Kerry is a relatively simple tune, but it’s pretty in its simplicity. I think it might be faux Irish, because the name sounds kind of Irish, and the tune sounds kind of Irish, but I don’t believe that there are any palm trees in Ireland – unless they are hiding indoors. 🙂
It’s a quick waltz, and to me, it also sounds a little bit like it should be played at a fair or circus, maybe while you are riding a ferris wheel.
So far the only online reference to The Palm Trees of Kerry is that Peter Cooper included it in the Mel Bay book:
Mel Bay’s Complete Irish Fiddle Player.
If you know anything more about this tune, please leave it as a comment.
Thanks,
Vi

It could be. If you love my lessons, I have some real instructional videos on http://www.myTalentForgeom/join-us/ – not just tunes. 🙂

There are palm trees in Ireland. 🙂
Meredith Hutmacher says
Yep. We saw them on the southern coast.

I didn't know about them. It isn't something I ever would have suspected.

Some interesting rhythms in there… Didn't quite catch them for sure, but it sounded like there were some 4/4 measures thrown in.

It's one of those tunes that sounds crooked, but isn't. 🙂
