[The song played at the beginning of this Quick Tip is called Wild John. You can listen to it here.]
Hello everybody, Vi Wickam here with another Quick Tip for your week.
That tune is called Wild John. I think it’s appropriate for this Quick Tip, which is to make it a game…
We’ve all got practicing to do. We’re potentially doing the 5, 5, 5 challenge right now, doing 5 minutes of practice, 5 days a week, for 5 weeks and seeing how that takes us down this road.
Which a challenge is really just one type of game. So playing a game with yourself is one way to take your playing to the next level.
It’s one thing to practice, but practicing can be a drudgery. If I’m like…”I have to practice… Oh my gosh, I’ve got to practice again today.”
Or you can look at it like “What can I do today? What kind of fun thing can I do to challenge myself?” Maybe I can set out to do that 5, 5, 5 challenge.
Maybe I can be like “Hmm, I wonder if I can take this tune that I’m currently playing at 80 beats a minute, and take it up to 100 beats to a minute. Or maybe I can get it to 95.”
Or maybe my challenge is, how about I take this section and I see if I can play it spot on perfect.
Make it a game! Maybe you give yourself a reward. If I can do this, I’m going to get a piece of chocolate! Or I’m going to go out for ice cream. Or maybe I’m going to get to take a break and take a walk and enjoy the outside!
But however you do it, have fun with it, because we play music. Music is a way we can express ourselves and have fun.
So make it a game! Make up the rules and give yourself challenges and keep it fun. Keep it real! I’ll see you next time!
