Hello My Friends!
I’m back with another New Tune Challenge!
This is another one of my original tunes, called Here’s to John Hartford. It’s an old-time/bluegrassy sounding tune, that when it came out of my head, I thought it sounded like something John Hartford would’ve written. I wrote it not long after doing one of my deep dive listening binges.
Periodically, I will pick an artist that I admire, and listen to every tune or song in their discography, starting at the beginning. I knew quite a bit of John Hartford’s music before, but I had no idea of the breadth of his musical creativity. He was truly a brilliant creator!
I didn’t write this tune specifically trying to emulate anything about Hartford’s style, but it felt a little like him when it came out.
* The goal of this project is to get you to respond. I’m going to play the tune, and then I want to hear your take on this tune. I want to hear your version, what you do to it.
Listen to my recording, learn it by ear or by the sheet music below, and record your version and send me a link.
Play me what you’ve got! Let’s hear it!
