Going Places is a pretty sweet tune. It’s swingy and fun, and just a little bit tricky.
I first heard it on one of the Weiser CD’s that John Lardinois recorded. What a great resource those recordings were.
I don’t know anything about the tune, but maybe the Internets will enlighten me. 🙂
Nope, no luck. I found a handful of recordings, but no information. Can any of you enlighten me?

…First I ever heard it was E J Hopkins many years ago. He called it “going places, doing things”
Norman Solomon fancied it up. This was maybe 40 years ago. Only has the title in common with the Venuti tune.
Don’t have a clue where E J got it. Never asked him.

I stumbled across your site researching this tune…. the original name for this melody is "Doin' Things" by Eddie Lang and Joe Venuti. It was the flip-side of "Goin' Places" 78rpm disk OKEH 40825 recorded 5/4/1927. A good example of a music meme!
