This is a bucket list experience for me. Last year, Christina and I had the pleasure of going to Italy. While we were there, I made the acquaintance of a great Italian luthier by the name of Jamie Lazzarra.
I got to play her violins, which were amazing, and we spent the afternoon hanging out, drinking coffee and playing music.
She invited us to come back to Italy again this year to join her in playing for Maggio, an Italian holiday that is similar to May day here in the states. (Maggio means May.)
It is a celebration of the planting of the crops where the folk musicians of the area play music to bless the planting of the crops. And, as with all Italian holidays, there is lots of sharing of food and joy. And, I have really been digging in learning some of the regional Italian fiddle tunes.
It is an honor for me to be allowed to be a part of this joy and community, and I am deeply thankful for this experience.
