Champion Fiddler, Inspired Performer
I will be playing fiddle and guitar, joining other fiddlers for the annual holiday party sponsored by the Elyria-Swansea-Globeville Business Association (EGSBA) amd helpd at the National Western Stock Show Exhibition Hall
The Colorado Old Time Fiddlers’ Association will again organize a group of fiddlers to play at a yearly holiday party sponsored by the Elyria-Swansea-Globeville Business Association (EGSBA). The party will be held on Tuesday December 16, 2014, at the exhibition hall at the National Western Stock Show.
EGSBA sponsors this celebration for local families in the Denver Globeville area. 200 children and their families are invited to attend from the Garden Place and Swansea Elementary schools, ages 5-10 years old. These families are less fortunate and would not otherwise be able to provide a holiday celebration for themselves. EGSBA raises the funds and sponsorships to provide each family with food, such as turkey, ham, chickens, and dried fruit; toiletries; clothes, mittens, gloves and scarves; and blankets. Each child gets to select a toy from Santa. There will be a carnival for the children.
The event will begin with a military Color Guard presentation and the singing of the National Anthem. The Colorado fiddlers will provide entertainment following this. There will also be a performance by El Sistema, a music program within these schools, and they will be providing an instrument ‘petting zoo’. Sports teams will be present, such as the Denver Cutthroats and Denver Nuggets, and Mayor Michael Hancock will say a few words.
This event allows these families to have a holiday celebration they might not otherwise be able to enjoy. It also allows them to get involved as a community.
The Colorado Old Time Fiddlers’ Association is participating in this event to extend the organization’s community outreach.
