I first heard Dreamer’s Waltz as a teenager at the National Fiddle Contest in Weiser, Idaho. And, I never played it before today, although I have heard it in my head a few times, and definitely heard it a handful of times when I judged Weiser earlier this summer.
I don’t know who wrote it, or even who I first hear play it, but if my memory serves me correctly, Danita (Rast) Gardner plays a pretty version of this tune. Really, if it’s a waltz and Danita plays it, it’s going to be beautiful.
Here is the sum total of the useful informationI have been able to find on this tune. I don’t know how reputable it is because it came from youtube comments. Please let me know if you know anything more.
1. I understand that Jim Widner of Montana wrote this tune. He’s still fiddling, and sounding great in Darby Montana. His group was the Snake River Outlaws. MMISSOURICLEM
2. back in the 70s I had the Clem Myers record — and this was the only one I never learned from that record. Thanks for putting it back into my head. I’ll get on it right away. elmovhossenfopp

Hi Vi, I used to go to Mt. St. Contest–1980/85 in polson & it was well known that it was Jimmy Widner's tune. He was there most years back then.
Thanks for the info, Lynn!
This was definitely written by Jimmy Widner. BTW, he has a birthday coming up. His birthday is on Halloween.
Thanks, Nance!
Beautiful!

It's a pretty one, for sure. I think the name is perfect for it.
