I’m excited to be teaching another fiddle workshop with the Scottish Fiddling Society of Colorado, December 5th . In this workshop, I will discuss the origins and development of American Fiddle music over time, as well as the function and role of fiddle contests in this development.
This will be an interactive workshop, and all attendees are encouraged to bring the fiddles. After we discuss these origins, I will teach 3 contest style fiddle tunes at an intermediate level. We will also cover the basic melodies of these tunes and some concepts that will help attendees create some of their own variations of these melodies.
Attendees of this workshop, will receive play-along audio, and sheet music for these 3 tunes as well. These tunes will be tunes that are appropriate for playing in a fiddle contest, such as the Colorado State Fiddle Championships at the National Western Stock Show in January.
