Darktown Strutter’s Ball – Fiddle Tune a Day – Day 114

Darktown Strutter’s Ball was another of my Grandpa’s favorite tunes, and we often played it at our family get-togethers. I think it has a really catchy melody, and I enjoy playing it. I think you’ll agree.

Darktown Strutter’s Ball Lyrics

I’ll be down to get you in a taxi honey

You’d better be ready around half past eight

Ah baby don’t be late I want to be there when the band starts honey

Well just remember when we get there honey

Two steps gonna handle them all

Dance with both my shoes when they play the jelly roll blues

Tomorrow night at the darktown strutter’s ball

Well I’ll be down to get you in a taxi honey

You’d better be ready around half past eight

Ah baby don’t be late I want to be there when the band starts honey

Just remember when we get there honey

Two steps and gonna handle them all

Dance off both my shoes when they play the jelly roll blues

Tomorrow night at the darktown strutter’s ball

I’ll be down to get you in a taxi honey

You’d better be ready around half past eight

Ah baby don’t be late I want to be there when the band starts honey

Just remember when we get there honey

Two steps gonna handle them all

I’m gonna dance off both my shoes when they play the jelly roll blues

Tomorrow night at the darktown strutter’s ball.

Me again. Seem to be having all sorts of problems. I used to be in control of my old computer but the new one is in complete control of me I guess.

I did get Darktwon Strutter’s Ball in a round about way – and not in my usual e-mail in box. Thanks for that.
I have been saving your FTAD in my Real Player Library (downloading from YouTube transmission).

However, I am not receiving anything at all now. Haven’t received your e-mails for three days now. If you tell me its at my end I will try to find out what is happening. I hate to miss these.

Would there be a problem with ISP i.e. e-mail from USA to Canada?

I’m not sure why you aren’t getting the emails. I can verify that they are going out because I get a copy of them myself. I’m guessing that your email host might be flagging them as spam.

I didn’t get this e-mail either – I came looking for it on your web site. So I will snoop around here and find out what is stopping your transmissions at my end. Thanks for your input and I can get the tunes visiting your web site or You Tube. Not to worry.

    Hi Vi,

I still don’t see the video for Darktown Strutter’s Ball, which is one of my favorite tunes. And, more importantly, I wanted to tell you how much I love receiving a “Fiddle Tune a Day”. Keep up the good work.

Check it now, Alice. I’m not sure why there were issues with this one, but I think it’s good now.

Hey Vi: I guess I should start making some comments since I am ENJOYING your Fiddle Tune a Day so much! They really really inspire me to practice and learn more songs. I’m picking up a copy of the 1000 Fiddle Tunes on Tuesday from my local music store. You mention this book on some of your video’s. Can’t wait to get enough tunes learned to start visiting & playing at nursing homes, in my dad’s memory. Many thanks for sharing all these Awesome tunes Vi. Really hope to meet u one day and jam with you 🙂

Thanks, RJ. That’s all fantastic stuff. Cole’s 1000 fiddle tunes is a great resource. It has TONS of reels, hornpipes, and jigs. You are very welcome. Hopefully our paths will cross in person at some point!
