Hi! I’m Vi Wickam, and this is another Quick Tip for your practicing!
Tip is to breathe. I know we all breathe all the time, but when you’re doing something really hard- something that’s challenging, something that’s stretching you to the end of your comfort zone, I’m willing to wager that you hold your breath. And if you don’t hold your breath, you’re probably breathing shallowly.
So take a deep breath…let it all out before you pick up your instrument and start to play.
When you get to a tough part of the song, take a deep breath, really focus on breathing as you play through the hard passage. When you’re practicing that hard passage, really slow it down and breathe intentionally. Think about your breathing while you’re playing, because breathing will help you relax.
And if you’re relaxed, you’re going to play better and you’re going to be able to play harder things. And that’s your Quick Tip for the week!
Have a good one!
