Each time I put out an album, It is important to me that I push the envelope a little bit. That I grow outside of my comfort zone. That I up my game in some way.
When Justin Branum and I created Armadillo on a Hot Tin Roof, we did this in a number of ways.
First, we used Jim Wood’s amazing studio to record the album at. I think that the tone that they captured at Tennessee Studios was fantastic on all of the instruments and the vocals.
Second, I am super proud of the music that we created on the album. We had so much fun creating the music, and I really think that the fun we had shines through on the album.
Finally, we decided to make a concerted effort to promote this album to folk radio. Steve Eulberg and I did this with our Old School Old Time Album, and had some success, but we really didn’t have a system in place, and we were doing it on a wing and a prayer. Since that album, I have been figuring out how these things work, and learning a little more each time.
We didn’t end up in First place, but I can’t complain at all about ending up between John Prine and Willie Nelson. And, I’m certainly proud of my brother, Joe Jencks who came in at #3!
Thank you to all of the DJs who played Armadillo on a Hot Tin Roof, and helped make this album a success! And, thanks to all of you who have taught me things along the way! I couldn’t have done it without you!
Here’s the Chart!
ps. Notice that Vi Wickam and Justin Branum were also the #4 artist of the month.
