A Whole New World – Fiddle Tune a Day – Day 151

I know some of you are thinking, “What!?!?! Another wedding song???? Is this guy nuts?” Yeah, I am a little crazy, but I promise I won’t post another wedding song this week. Besides, getting ready to play weddings can be a lot of work when they make special requests.

Regardless, A Whole New World is today’s fiddle tune. It’s a pretty tune from Disney’s Alladin. I’m sure you have probably heard it before, but I bet you haven’t heard it on fiddle before.

“A Whole New World” according to Wikipedia

Single by Peabo Bryson and Regina Belle

from the album Aladdin: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

Writer(s) Alan Menken (music) Tim Rice (lyrics)[1]

“A Whole New World” is the Oscar winning featured pop single from the soundtrack to the 1992 Disney film Aladdin.[1] It was composed by Alan Menken with lyrics by Tim Rice.[1] The song is a ballad between the primary characters Aladdin and Jasmine about the new world they are going to discover together. The original version was sung by Brad Kane and Lea Salonga during the film. They also performed the song in their characters at the 65th Academy Awards, where it won Best Song.[1]

A single version of the song was previously released that year and was performed by Peabo Bryson and Regina Belle.[1] As the biggest pop hit for each artist, this version peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart on March 6, 1993,[2] replacing Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You”, which had spent a then record fourteen weeks at the top of the chart. The track peaked at #9 in the UK Singles Chart in 1992.[1]

A Whole New World Lyrics

I can show you the world
Shining, shimmering, splendid
Tell me, princess, now when did
You last let your heart decide?

I can open your eyes
Take you wonder by wonder
Over, sideways and under
On a magic carpet ride

A whole new world
A new fantastic point of view
No one to tell us no
Or where to go
Or say we’re only dreaming

A whole new world
A dazzling place I never knew
But when I’m way up here
It’s crystal clear
That now I’m in a whole new world with you
Now I’m in a whole new world with you

Unbelievable sights
Indescribable feeling
Soaring, tumbling, freewheeling
Through an endless diamond sky

A whole new world
Don’t you dare close your eyes
A hundred thousand things to see
Hold your breath – it gets better
I’m like a shooting star
I’ve come so far
I can’t go back to where I used to be

A whole new world
Every turn a surprise
With new horizons to pursue
Every moment red-letter
I’ll chase them anywhere
There’s time to spare
Let me share this whole new world with you

A whole new world
That’s where we’ll be
A thrilling chase
A wondrous place
For you and me
