A Backwards Pushup? – Quick Tip

Find more Quick Tips and lessons by Vi Wickam and other teachers at https://www.myTalentForge.com.

Hey everybody! Vi Wickam here with your [my] Talent Forge Quick Tip of the Week.

This Quick Tip a little exercise for all of us who play instruments, or use computers, and have our arms out in front of us all day long.

What happens is these muscles get strengthened and these muscles in our back get stretched out and become weaker.

One of the solutions, one thing that will help us, is to do some exercises that actually strengthen those muscles in our back.

An easy exercise is a reverse pushup, or a backwards pushup- whatever you want to call it… The idea is that we stand in a corner and have walls on either side of us like this.

The further out our feet go, the more tension we’ll have on our back. We’ll use our elbows to push us out towards the front, and a little bit past, using our shoulder blades to contract.

It’s a pretty easy exercise, and you can adjust the difficulty if it’s a little too hard- step back to the corner with your feet.

And that’s it! A reverse pushup.

If you want a little more tension, put your feet out a little further.

As soon as you feel some soreness, or some tiredness back there, give it a break. But 10-15 reps is probably a good number. It’s a good way you can start your practice, or end your practice.

Just to bring a little balance!

That’s your Quick Tip for this week! It’s the reverse pushup.

Have a great week! I’ll see you next time!
