Sally Johnson – Fiddle Tune a Day – Day 3

The 3rd edition of Fiddle Tune a day is a special treat. Since I happened to be in Colorado Springs, I was fortunate that my friend, and amazing Fiddler, Tony Ludiker was available for a little jamming.

Sally Johnson is a Texas Style breakdown. This tune features Vi Wickam on Fiddle, Tony Ludiker on Fiddle, and Zach Lawson on Guitar.

Arkansas Traveler: Fiddle Tune a Day – Day 1

A Journey Begins

This is the first day of my Fiddle tune of the day project. For the next year, I will be posting one new fiddle tune to youtube each day. Some of them will be me playing solo, and when I can I may have an accompanist, or even another fiddler.

I hope that you enjoy my fiddle tune a day series. If you have suggestions of tunes you would like to hear, please post them as comments below.

Gardenia Waltz

One of the prettiest waltzes I know, and one of the hardest to play well, Gardenia waltz was written by the amazing Texas swing fiddler Johnny Gimble.

The Difference between a Violin and a Fiddle

I had the pleasure of being chosen to speak on the difference between a violin and a fiddle at Ignite Fort Collins #5.

What IS the difference between a violin and a fiddle you might ask?

Is a violin worth more? Is it OK to spill beer on a fiddle? Do fiddler’s really slouch? Do violinists wear mullets?

Watch my video and find out the real difference between a fiddle and a violin…

Moneymusk Hornpipe

Moneymusk hornpipe is a fun oldtime fiddle tune. I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I did working it up.

I got the inspiration to record it watching Jean Carignan videos here on youtube.

I couldn’t figure out how Jean got his triplets to pop, and I learned from Donna Hebert that the French Triplet is split into 2 bows.
