The May edition of the Colorado Old Time Fiddlers’ Association Newsletter features another arrangement by Fort Collins Strings Member, Vi Wickam.
The May newsletter features a Twin Fiddle arrangement of “Who’s Gonna Talk to Dinah” as arranged by Vi Wickam. Vi learned this piece by listening to Junior Marriott and Alita Stoneking play the tune in the Twin Fiddle division at the American Heritage Music Festival in Grand Lake, OK. This isn’t a transcription of what they played, but is an arrangement that Vi worked up when he got back home after the contest.
Camps will be taught by Champion Fiddlers: Vi Wickam and Cody Stadelmaier.
Classes are held in the mornings, and additional instruction is available outside of the camp in the afternoons and evenings.
Registration is limited to 15 for each camp, and the first one will be a more general/basic camp for beginners to intermediate fiddlers held July 19-23.
The second camp will be for more advanced students and will be held August …2-6.
It is an honor to be featured in the April Newsletter for the Colorado Old Time Fiddlers’ Association.
The April COTFA Newsletter featured my arrangement of Arkansas Traveler, and talked about the $5 Fiddle Workshops that I am putting on monthly at Magnolia Music.
Here are my notes from the Cross-Tuned fiddle workshop. It has some recommendations for things to consider when you are wanting to cross-tune your fiddle. I also have listed some of the more common Alternate Violin Tunings. If you have additional tuning, please feel free to add them in the comments section.
I also have included sheet music to Midnight on the Water by Luke Thomasson. The music is just the basic melody. Below, you will also find a YouTube video of me playing Midnight on the water.
$15—A portion of proceeds will be donated to the Larimer County Food Bank.
Champion Fiddler, Vi Wickam, and Guitarist/Singer Songwriter Richard Kelley play a fun combination of upbeat traditional tunes, hilarious comedy, and classic Americana. Come join us. You’ll be glad you did!
Here is the notes handout from the twin fiddle workshop. It has some general rules to consider when playing twin fiddle, as well as a very basic arrangement of Boil The Cabbage Down as triple fiddle, and Who’s Gonna Talk to Dinah as a twin arrangement I did based on hearing Junior Marriott play it with Alita Stoneking at the Grand Lake National fiddle contest.
I have posted the notes that I handed out at the Practical Music Theory fiddle workshop. If you are wanting to learn a little bit about music theory, the reference sheet below has some good basic info (of course, we marked them up in the class with all sorts of other notes.)

Jon Trawick of iFiddle recently interviewed me, and posted the interview to his website. If you are wondering who my favorite fiddle players are, what I think about Fiddle styles, and more, this is the place to go.
