Today, I’m playing a tune that I wrote a few years back. I clearly remember calling Bill Jones, Ed Carnes, and Matt Wyatt to see if it was a tune that any of them recognized. (It’s not uncommon for fiddlers to write a tune from their subconscious that someone else has already written.) None of them recognized it, so I felt safe to call it my own.
I haven’t ever recorded it while playing with a backup player, and since I am in Weiser this week at the National Old Time Fiddler’s Contest, I was lucky enough to have Gary Lee Moore nearby, and he was gracious enough to take on learning my new tune. I really think that the backup adds to the tune.
