I received these pictures in an email claiming that these billboards are all over Detroit during the Woodward Dream Cruise, a large classic car event in August.

These new Chevy Billboards capture the glory years of the US automotive industry. I really like it that in recent years, US automakers have returned to some of the beautiful design concepts of the past. These billboards really connect with the emotions that people feel when they think of those cars, and they capture the beautiful styling of these cars in spades.

The only criticism I have is that they don’t include any current cars. Selling a 1960 Corvette Stingray or a ’57 Chevy doesn’t help Chevy’s sales, but selling a bunch of 2010 Camaros would do wonders.

Personal Branding is a topic that is widely misunderstood, and often misused. To me, personal branding does cannot be successful if you are trying to reinvent yourself. True personal branding must be authentic to be successful. It must start with introspection and finding your passion. Only then can you create a brand that people will want to connect with.

Here are the highlights from my Personal Branding presentation:

  1. Find out who you are deep down.
  2. What is your Passion
  3. What tools can I use to communication my passion with the world
  4. Start writing. Begin to engage your audience by writing authentic, interesting content.
  5. Understand that this is a dialogue, not a broadcast. (You must listen as well.)
  6. You are creating community, not just an audience.

I’m not sure who took these pictures, but they paint a vivid (black and white) picture of what hardships really look like, and should give us all an appreciation for how easy we’ve got it.

I would be happy to credit the photographer of these pictures, should someone notify me.

You read that headline correctly. Unfortunately, the Obama Administration is financing oil exploration off Brazil. The U.S. is going to lend billions of dollars to Brazil’s state-owned oil company, Petrobras, to finance exploration of the huge offshore discovery in Brazil’s Tupi oil field in the Santos Basin near Rio de Janeiro. Brazil’s planning minister confirmed that White House National Security Adviser James Jones met this month with Brazilian officials to talk about the loan.

Am I the only one who senses the irony here?

Whole article from the Wall Street Journal:
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052970203863204574346610120524166.html

Update from the Export-Import bank website:

http://www.exim.gov/brazil/pressrelease_082009.cfm

Synopsis: The offshore drilling loans were unanimously approved after Obama took office, (April 14, 2009) but while Bush appointees (3 republicans and 2 democrats) were still on the board – 2 of these appointees are still on the board. The Export-Import Bank is a nonpartisan United States federal government entity, whose charter is to improve US global competitiveness by loaning people money.

To clarify my stance, I have no problem with a US Federal Government entity loaning money to a Brazilian company to drill off their coast, especially if it means that they are more likely to use US goods and services in their project. I just sensed the dramatic irony that this happened while Obama was in office.

I am sure that I’m not the only guy who think that this would be completely awesome to have, or the only guy who dreamed of flying with a jetpack as a kid.
